Yodio- Learning Poetry
Here is my Yodio cast. Sorry it took so long for to post but I had the hardest time figuring out how to post this assignment to my Blog. I was trying to use the Post/Embed box to attach to my blogger when all along there was an embed code on the left hand side of the page that I could use. Well I wised up after several tries of changing my blogger password and email password. Hope you all enjoy my post. Now I can finally enjoy Yodio (thought it was not so cool before I figured it out).

Final Project
This was a great project to do for my final, and I am so glad that I chose it. Even though I will be giving the link to my wiki site I will constantly be adding information and I hope that it updates the link that will be given. I worked really hard on this project so I hope that my parents will use the site and enjoy it.

Skype and Article #3
Well I love Skype. I Skype with Jessica all the time. I recently Skyped with Robbye to get a better understanding of what to do for my Wiki page. She was able to troubleshoot me through the mess I made. Jessica and I use skype to make sure that we are keeping up with all of our assignments. I believe if used correctly skype is a great educational tool. Not only is it free for students to use, it will not tie up their parents phone line when they need help with homework. They can skype their friends.
Minding Myspace
This school in California came up with a brilliant way to allow students to have myspace pages and emails but the school monitors the activity on these pages. The school I am sure is eating extreme cost for this venture but I am also sure that it is well worth it. Now the students have access to these programs with parents permission. This also allows them the opportunity to share and collaborate with fellow students without being face to face. If a school system has the funds to support such a task I think it would be a great thing to do.

Web Application/Webware Presentation
Okay, much like many of you I was a little lost for what to do. But my partner (Jessica Hollie) and I hope that we hit it on the head. Our site for the presentation is Kids Know It (www.kidsknowit.com).
This is a very informative site that has information on it for just about any subject you wish to explore. Not only is there information listed about the subject(s) in question but the site also offers games to help drill the point home. This makes it fun for the students.
We both thought that this was a great site and hope that everyone enjoys it as much as we have. This is a great site if anyone has not used it before to take back to the classroom to share with inquiring students. Have fun exploring it.

Teaching Zach to Think and for that matter everyone else too
Okay I read this article and it was a refresher but always good to read. Teaching students to use the web as a research resource is great but teachers need to make sure that students understand if the information that they have researched is correct. Students can use a search engine called Profusion.com to search several search engines (i.e. Altavista, Excite, Infoseek, Lycos, and Yahoo) at once. Running a search on Profusion will help the student get a better understanding of the subject being researched. Although students have the ability to use the web they also need to look beyond the Internet for dependable resources.

Youtube Comes to the Classroom
Thought I would add a lovely song before posting my first reading. (RIP AJ)
Okay so I agree with the masses, Youtube is here to stay and the fact that it is free makes it belong here forever. There is a saying that goes something like if you can't beat them join them. It fits perfectly for this situation. Students (people in general) are flocking to this site and posting all day and all night. The odds are better putting the information out of the book in video form for students to view.

Chilling with Arie
Completing first weekend. Learned alot and India helps me mellow out and digest all the necessary information learned. I am on information overload. Have a great week everybody.
Webquest on Blogging
Here are the questions that Hollie and I had to answer dealing with Blogging:
1. Create an operational definition for the term blog.
blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34Rcd12Y5Qc
2. Does the technology promote student engagement or merely entertainment?
Yes, the technology in blogging promotes student engagement because they are allowed to publish their own post and respond to their classmate/friends post.
3. Analyze whether this technology adds some demonstrable pedagogical value to traditional instruction.
This technology does provide demonstrable pedagogical value due to the fact that the student is not only reading or looking at the information inside of a textbook but they are allowed to venture out to different websites (included in the blog) to find their answer.
4. Assess the use of this particular technology to aid students in the acquisition of knowledge and not just information.
This particular technology aids students in the acquisition of knowledge by allowing them to gain knowledge from someone else’s/teacher’s post.
1. Ex. I could post a History fact that you may not have known during a collaborative blog assignment on World War II.
5. Suggest some educational uses for blogs in the K-12 classroom.
Some educational uses of blogs in the classroom are: classroom news, assignments, class elections/polls, school/class events.
6. Discuss the pluses and minuses of using blogs with students.
A. Some advantages of using blogs are:
a. http://www.slideshare.net/frankcalberg/11-advantages-of-using-a-blog-for-teaching
b. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whm3pxqkvB8
B. Disadvantages of blogs
Need to keep it constantly updated otherwise you lose potential readers
Easy to start, hard to maintain
Keeping student in the range of the topic (no foul language, bullying)

HyperText
In class we did an assignment on hypertexting in Microsoft Word. This was a cool assignment because not only did my group incorporate hypertexts but we added pictures and videos to the document. We also saved the microsoft document as a webpage.
Here is my groups hypertext assignment:
What do you do with a tale like this?
Author Steve Jenkins and Robin Page
What do animals do with their nose, ears, tails, eyes, mouth, and feet?
Nose
The elephant uses it nose to breath, pick up things, bathe, and defend itself. This animal can be found in Africa.
Ears
If you’re a jackrabbit you use your ears to keep cool. This animal loves in the hot desert climate located in the American Southwest.
Tails
If you’re a skunk you lift your tail to warn that a stinky spray is on the way. This animal is located in North America.
Eyes
If you’re a four-eyed fish you are able to look above and below the water at the same time. Four eyed fish are located in South America.
Mouth
If you’re a mosquito you use your mouth to suck blood. Mosquito’s are located everywhere.
Feet
If you’re a water strider you walk on water. The water strider is found in the United States

Using Wordle
I enjoyed using Wordle and I am sure that I will allow my students to use this program for the 2010-2011 school year. Wish I had known about this site a long time ago. Above is the Wordle done in class by just answering a few questions. Once questions were answered in Microsoft Word, I was able to copy the paragraph into Wordle.com. Once there I was able to design it to what I liked.
